Tudor and Omega Lead As Top Gainers On Wristcheck Watch Index In June

This month, The Wristcheck Watch Index generated some surprising results, like Tudor and Omega gaining traction on the second-hand market and some Big 3 models lagging behind

Despite the steady decline of the Wristcheck 100 Index, Omega and Tudor have been defying the odds and gaining popularity. In fact, they have outperformed the prestigious Big 3 – Rolex, Audemars Piguet, and Patek Philippe – who have been experiencing a slight fall in their sales.

A closer look reveals that Tudor has been consistently growing throughout June, with a significant increase of 1.5% each week. This could be attributed to speculations about another price hike in the near future, following Rolex's recent price increase earlier this month.

Although not as impressive as Tudor's growth, Omega's numbers are still on the rise. The Omega 50 Index has seen a 1% increase since the release of their highly anticipated Moonswatch Mission on Earth series in early June. It seems both brands are making waves in the competitive watch market, leaving the Big 3 behind in their wake.

Here’s a look at the top gainers this month:

Tudor Black Bay 41 Yellow Gold & Stainless Steel Champagne Dial

Over the past month, the market value of Tudor Black Bay 41 Yellow Gold & Stainless Steel Champagne Dial (ref. M79733N-0003) grew 12.4%, to where it sits now, at US$ 4,156 (which is slightly lower than its retail value of US$ 4,475). Moreover, based on recorded transactions, the market value of this watch has been growing steadily daily (from 0.5% to up to 1.2%). It’s worth noting that earlier this year, the model was in the metaphorical gutters – going from around US$ 3,000 in July 2023 to May 10th, when it began trending up.

Tudor Black Bay 41 Stainless Steel Black Dial

The same goes for Tudor Black Bay 41 Stainless Steel Black Dial (ref.M79730-0005). This month, the model began trading at US$ 2,047 (by an order of magnitude lower than its retail price of US$ 3,700) and steadily rose to US$ 2,492 as of July 10th. Similar to its yellow gold brother, the watch has been losing value month on month throughout the entirety of 2023 before picking it back up – you guessed it – on May 10th, 2024.

Tudor Black Bay 36 Steel Silver Dial

Looking at the performance of Tudor Black Bay in steel with silver dial (ref. M79500-0013) market performance, an image of Sisyphus and his eternal struggle comes to mind. This month, the model began trading at below 2k and reached US$ 2,461 as of July 10th. This is still well under the piece’s retail price of US$ 3,200.

And here are this month’s biggest decliners:

Calibre de Cartier 42 Rose Gold & Stainless Steel Silver Dial

A lot of surprises were on last month’s decliners list, including some prominent models from the biggest maisons. Our watchful eyes and compassionate hearts did spot Calibre de Cartier ref. W7100036’s fall from its glory. This gal couldn’t catch a break since March this year when she traded at 11.5K before spiraling down all through the following three months and reaching a low of US$ 6,861 (which is nearly half its retail value).

Patek Philippe Gondolo 30 Rose Gold Diamond Silver Dial

Man down! Things ain’t looking so good for Patek Philippe Gondolo ref. 7041R-001. This model exhibited a rather turbulent behavior over the past five years and, when it finally began trading at above US$ 35,000 in July 2023 (its retail value is at US$ 36,290, by the way), it witnessed a dramatic drop in April this year. After reaching US$ 29,187 in early June, it dropped another 25% to US$ 22,104.

Rolex Daytona Rose Gold Black Dial

We are not here to offer investment advice, but, if you were thinking of purchasing your first Rolex, the stars might be in your favor, particularly with ref. 116505-0002. Over the past month, this rose gold Daytona dropped from US$ 41,792 to US$ 35,570, which is about 15%. Remember, this model still retails for US$ 46,500 at that.
